GRILLO VINE

This vine is one of the most important varieties of eastern Sicily, especially in the province of Trapani. Although the ampelographic documentation on this vine is scarce, it is probable that the Grillo originated from Puglia and arrived on the island after the phylloxera invasion in the nineteenth century where, because of its great adaptability, it was planted over roughly 60% of the vine-growing areas around Trapani alone. The predisposition of this vine to produce wines which have high alcoholic content and are easily-oxidized earned it considerable esteem with regards to the production of the renowned Marsala wine. After the euphoria of post-phylloxera reconstruction, Grillo experienced a long period of oblivion as it ceded much of its terroir to more profitable varieties. In the ‘90s, however, there was a complete reversal in this trend, which rehabilitated this splendid wine.

GRILLO WINE
The grapes are vinified both blended with other varieties, and also as a single varietal. This has given birth to a wine with an intense straw yellow colour, aromas of flowers and hay, a warm, dry taste, and good acidity that makes it perfect for ageing.
